The domestic yarn is from the Eastport Heathered Collection-- It is a "perfect blend of Alpaca fiber & Merino for strength, warmth and durability. The natural Alpaca blended with the dyed Merino gives a beautiful multi-dimensional color. Eastport Yarns are American made, using Alpaca fiber grown on over 25 different family farms in the US. The yarn is worsted spun, meaning that the fibers are aligned by a combing process that keeps the yarn thin and sturdy. This way you can use a variety of needles and always get a great result."

Each 75g skein has a retail value of $16 each

GUIDELINES FOR CLIP PREPARATION
 FOR SALE OF FIBER
From SuriPaco Farm

SuriPaco Objectives

  • Maximize financial returns to alpaca breeders

  • Standardize collection for cost effective processing

  • Expand commercial production of domestic alpaca and alpaca blended products

Pre-shearing Steps

  • Clean blanket of major debris

  • Set up collection process to avoid contamination and mixing of fleeces

Post-shearing Steps -- Collection, Sorting, and Skirting

  • Color -- Currently SuriPaco purchases all colors and a variety of grades

  • Skirting maximizes value, i.e. remove debris, clotted sections, stained sections and unequal cuts (second cuts) from perimeter of blanket.  If you have experience skirting fleece blanket, please do so.  If not, the blanket will be skirted as part of the grading done at Collection Site, which is Cedar Brook Alpacas.

  • Pack each skirted fleece in a clear plastic bag and leave the bag open to air -- do not use burlap bags, old feed bags or anything that would contaminate the fiber

Identification of Clip -- Insert a 3 x 5 card inside the bag with the following information:

  • Farm name and address

  • Weight of fleece, if available -- we will calculate the total weight of your clip and pay on the graded and skirted weight

  • Label outside of bag with farm name

Purchasing Price For Small Volumes (less than 250 pounds) Varies According To:

  • Grade of Fleece (See Chart)

  • Weight

  • Cleanliness

  • Volume -- Amounts greater than 250 pounds are negotiated and purchased by contract

Purchases of Large Volumes (greater than 250 pounds):

  • Amounts greater than 250 pounds are negotiated and purchased by contract pricing
